Preparation / Discussion

Collect simple items that have specific shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, diamond, and star.  Items could include a wooden block, small bouncy ball, book, triangular-shaped cracker, cookie and so on.  Place items in a small box or bag.

Play a game where your child reaches in the bag and chooses one item at a time.  Ask your child to identify the shape.

Talk about shapes that are all around us.  Look around the room and identify all of the different shapes that you find in objects around you.
